EMDR Therapy
for Coolangatta Residents
A safe, structured, evidence-based approach to processing difficult experiences, delivered by experienced psychologists, just a short drive from Coolangatta at our Kingscliff clinic.
What Is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy designed to facilitate the adaptive processing of distressing memories and adverse life experiences. EMDR aims to reduce the emotional distress and dysfunctional beliefs associated with traumatic or unresolved experiences by supporting the brain's natural information processing system. The therapy follows a structured, protocol-driven approach and, unlike some other trauma-focused therapies, does not require clients to provide detailed verbal accounts of their experiences throughout treatment.
Why Choose One Mind Health
Our psychologists are trained in EMDR and bring a calm, considered approach to a therapy that can feel daunting to start. We take the time to build trust and safety before any processing work begins. This isn't a one-size-fits-all process, and we won't treat it like one.
A Short Drive, A Different Experience
Coolangatta clients regularly choose to make the short trip to our Kingscliff clinic for a more private, calmer alternative to busier Gold Coast clinics. It's around a 10–15 minute drive via the M1 — close enough to be convenient, far enough to feel like your own space.
EMDR is commonly used to support people working through distressing or overwhelming experiences that continue to affect thoughts, emotions, behaviours, or physical responses.
For example:
Trauma, including single-incident events (such as accidents, assaults, or medical procedures) and complex or developmental trauma.
Post-traumatic stress symptoms, including intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, emotional reactivity, and avoidance.
Anxiety, particularly when linked to distressing experiences, including panic, social anxiety, phobias, and performance anxiety.
Persistent effects of adverse life experiences, such as shame, guilt, negative self-beliefs, or feeling "stuck" despite understanding what has happened.
Difficulties with emotional regulation, feeling constantly on edge, emotionally numb, or unsafe.
Low self-esteem and negative core beliefs that have developed through earlier life experiences.
Grief, loss, and significant life transitions where emotional distress remains unresolved.
Ongoing difficulties that have not fully responded to talking therapy alone, particularly where emotional or physiological responses persist despite insight.
What Sessions Look Like
We move at your pace. Early sessions focus on building a foundation of trust and safety, with processing work introduced only when you're ready. You stay in control throughout.

How we can help.
Here at One Mind Health we offer a private, confidential and safe place for you to express and explore your feelings. We are able to develop therapeutic relationships with those from varying backgrounds, economic, spiritual and cultural experiences and those navigating their way through their own individual LGBTQI+ journey. Talking to a Psychologist or mental health nurse is different to talking to a friend as they aim to provide unbiased insight. They will offer guidance to help you to understand the best way to improve your emotional well-being.
